About This Project

“Native American Heritage Month” collateral graphics and concept created for the Walt Disney Company, via Neon Butterfly as part of the Re:Imagine Tomorrow initiative.

The goal for this collaboration was to create a joyful, celebratory graphic that could honor and reflect many Indigenous Nations at once, and be used across a variety of platforms. With more than 1,000 different nations across Turtle Island, I began to reflect on the ways our communities celebrate and connect with one another.

How do stories, celebrations, and relationships move between Indigenous communities over time?
Beadwork, woven textiles and pattern!

I began looking at the way contemporary and historical beadwork, woven textiles, patterns and motifs move their way throughout Indigenous communities locally and inter-tribally as ways to celebrate, mark special occasions and deepen relationships. The resulting design solution draws on this by using a moon and sun as visual anchors, with natural elements linking them together via a beaded belt, surrounded by woven ribbons. A call to the deep history and the everlasting relationships between Indigenous people across Turtle Island and the territories we call home.
